Sennott Consulting

Sennott Consulting is a small group of mortgage industry experts led by Mark Sennott. A former award-winning investigative reporter who was also nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize, Sennott has spent more than 25 years in the appraisal and valuation business.

Over the years, Sennott has appeared in stories in the Wall Street Journal, the American Banker, and the Washington Post, leading the charge to keep independently tested AVMs as a viable valuation alternative for home equity loans and other lending channels.

The company’s current focus is to leverage decades of experience in the use of appraisals, evaluations, and AVMs to help lenders, Appraisal Management Companies, and others navigate the new regulatory framework to bring more fairness to lending.

Some Recent Engagements

  • Working with a Northwest technology company to develop new valuation solutions, including condition-informed AVMs.

  • Consulting with a large US regional bank to develop a multi-AVM cascade for home equity lending.

  • Developing Reconsideration of Value (ROV) best practices for a top-25 lender.

  • Participating in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Project Reach program, which brought together lenders, fair housing advocates, and government agencies to find solutions to the racial wealth gap and possible appraisal bias in lending.
